Wolfgang

Schmidt

Bundesminister a.D.

Hamburger in Berlin. Father. Builder of compromise. Transatlanticist. Modernizer of government. Security policy expert.

Wolfgang Schmidt is among Germany’s most experienced political strategists and has built a unique network across politics, business, and society. He has shaped politics at the highest level for over 25 years – in Berlin and Hamburg, in Europe and internationally: as Federal Minister, State Secretary, and State Councillor.

Today, he brings his experience in government and politics into public debate – as a speaker, adviser, and thought leader.

For many years, he has worked on central future issues: from economic, financial, and industrial policy to labor and social affairs and the modernization of the state – with a special focus on digitalization and cutting red tape. After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Schmidt contributed his foreign and security policy expertise to shaping Germany’s “Zeitenwende” and supported Chancellor Olaf Scholz in redefining German policy.
